The Yellow Trail – the trail we will be primarily walking – was rated the best trail in Illinois by Backpacker Magazine. The trails are in great shape and currently the wild geraniums and the woodland phlox are in full bloom! During the walk we’ll cover the following topics, among others: The geologic formation of the area, leave no trace ethics, local flora and fauna. We’ll also discuss some of the history of the Swallow Cliff Forest Preserve (did you know there was a ski jump there?
Difficulty level: The walk will take approximately 2 hours and will be 3-4 miles in length, depending on the group size and fitness levels. Be assured that we’ll cater to the group’s needs.

Meet your volunteer guide: The love of the outdoors has led Bruce to visit every state (multiple times) and explore all 62 of our National Parks, as well as many National Forests. Bruce has led friends and colleagues to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and to the top of Angel’s Landing in Zion N.P., and to The John Muir Trail and Half Dome in Yosemite. Additionally, he has done trailwork with the Sierra Club in Virgin Islands Nationall Park and Shawnee National Forest.This event is free, but please register to secure your spot.
