Trailblazers – Whistler Woods Bird Walk
What to expect on the hike: Come explore the beautiful Whister Woods, home to the Major Taylor Trail. Whistler is also home to many bird species. Spring migration is right around the corner, be sure to catch the first sightings.
Difficulty level: Leisurely paced walk with frequent stops for observations and photos. No birding experience necessary – first timers are welcome and encouraged!
Parking/Meeting location: Meet at the very end of the parking lot
Meet your volunteer guide: Meet your volunteer: Elena is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Criminology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Originally from Florida, her passion for birding developed during the early stages of the Covid-19 Pandemic, when the outdoors offered some much-needed peace and solace. Since then, she has become increasingly interested in the community-building opportunities that lie in urban birdwatching. She is thrilled to be joining FOTFP to lead her first bird walks.
What to bring/wear: Dress for the forecasted temperature and windchill. Layering is recommended. Be sure to bring water. Sturdy/ waterproof boots are recommended. The boots should also be appropriate for the expected temperatures. Participants can also expect their boots to get muddy. Binoculars and field guides will be provided.
This event is free, but please register to secure your spot. If you have any questions about this walk or the Trailblazers Walking Series, contact Sydney Armstead, Engagement Program Manager, at sydney@fotfp.org.
