Trailblazers Walk: Beck Lake

June 4, 2022: 9:00 AM10:30 AM

Join us as we walk the segment of the Des Plaines River trail between Central and Euclid!

This stretch is from Beck Lake to Camp Pine Forest in Des Plaines. This is a there and back route, 2 miles one way and 2 the other. We’ll start out on the green trail then go north on the yellow trail until we reach Euclid road, then turn around (and if you don’t know what this means, come find out!). The pace will be about 2.7 mph.

Expect a hard-packed fine gravel trail at least 8 feet wide with dense, lush greenery on either side. In certain areas of the trail light purple wild geraniums grow at the sides. Keep an eye out for Philadelphia fleabane and Golden Alexander. At 1.3 miles the trail opens up into a pleasant savanna for a short time. Finally, the Des Plaines River will come into view at the two-mile mark.

See all the beauty described for yourself during this is deep woods hike located just a short distance from the Des Plaines River.

Amenities: There is a port-o-potty located where we meet about .1 miles away and another at the 2 mile mark.

Location: East River Rd & Central Road in Des Plaines, near Oakton Community College

Where to meet: Once you enter the preserve, drive .4 miles all the way back until the forest preserve drive ends. Look for a group of people standing in the parking lot. The leader will be wearing a gray t-shirt that says “Trailblazers Volunteer”.
