Trailblazers Nature Walk at Cap Sauers

April 27: 10:00 AM12:00 PM

This strenuous 3.5 mile out and back hike will take approximately 2.5 hours, and we will climb up and down hills, cross a few small creeks, bushwack through some deep woods, and walk on top of an ice-age Esker. It’s a spectacular journey!

Difficulty level: Although the walk is not a long one, and we’ll take our time so we can fully enjoy the area, most of the walk is on a rugged, unpaved trail with lots of hills, a few small water crossings, some bushwhacking, and scrambling over and around downed trees. A short water break at the turnaround area will allow a few minutes of rest before returning to the starting point.

Parking/Meeting location: The group meets at Teason’s Woods, which is located on S. Willow Springs Rd, just south of Calumet Sag Rd/Rte 83. Meet at the trail map just as you pull in the lot. Plenty of parking is available.

Meet your volunteer guide: Josh is a lifelong nature enthusiast, who particularly enjoys fishing and hiking, and is obsessed with the Palos/Sag trail system. When he’s not out hiking or trying to catch a few fish, Josh works as an employment attorney in Chicago.

What to wear/bring: Water, sun protection, a hat, bug spray, and sturdy walking shoes are highly recommended. Please prepare for possibly getting your toes wet. Long pants and long sleeves are always recommended when hiking in the woods. Optional items: a snack, and a walking stick.

This event is free, but please register to secure your spot. If for some reason you can’t make it, please cancel your ticket. If you have any questions about this walk or the Trailblazers Walking Series, contact Sydney Armstead, Engagement Program Manager, at sydney@fotfp.org.
