Trailblazers: Dam #1 Woods East – Fall Foliage Walk

October 5: 1:00 PM3:00 PM

This natural area features woods, a colorful prairie and unpaved trails. Trees should be starting to peak with brilliant fall colors. The autumn colors will be an added feature to all there is to see here. Great photography opportunities abound in this picturesque area.

Difficulty Level: The walk will be at a moderate pace and primarily on unpaved paths. Stepping over obstacles and uneven ground in some places may be necessary.

Parking/Meeting Location: Park in the Grove #2 area. Grove #2 is reached by driving to the end of the road after entering the woods from Dundee Rd. We’ll gather by the picnic shelter.

Meet your Volunteer Guide: Diane has a lifelong interest in nature and has volunteered with the Forest Preserves of Cook County since 2019. Her particular area of focus is on native plants. As a certified seed collection leader, she also collects and sows native seeds in conjunction with the North Branch Restoration Project. An avid hiker, she has formed and led fitness hiking groups for 10+ years.

What to Bring/Wear: Water for hydration, good sun protection and good walking shoes/hiking boots are strongly recommended. Insect repellent is needed to protect against various insects. Bring binoculars and cameras if you want them as well.

This event is free, but please register to secure your spot. If for some reason you can’t make it, please cancel your ticket. If you have any questions about this walk or the Trailblazers Walking Series, contact Sydney Armstead, Engagement Program Manager, at sydney@fotfp.org
