Take Action on Climate Change in the Forest Preserves

November 9, 2021: 6:30 PM8:00 PM

Are you itching to do something hands-on in the fight against climate change? You’re not alone.

Whether planting trees or saving a prairie, habitat restoration volunteers are out every weekend in the forest preserves – right here in Cook county – making a difference on climate change. And they’re having a great time doing it.

In this free webinar you’ll learn about how healthy forest preserves right here in Cook County protect us from the impacts of climate change, and how volunteers play a critical role helping us all become more resilient. Join us as we gain insight into the ecological, environmental justice, and volunteer perspectives from our panelists. The discussion will include prepared questions as well as an opportunity to take questions from the audience.

Habitat degradation in our preserves is affecting the ability of our natural areas to protect us from the worst effects of climate change. We are learning that the health of the natural world will be directly linked to humanity’s ability to weather the climate crisis. Volunteering to help ecological restoration is an activity that gives people the power to directly fight climate change impacts in our own communities.

Panelists will include:
Lauren Dean – volunteer, Beaubien Woods and Whistler Woods
Arthur Wawrzyczek – volunteer, LaBagh Woods
Rebecca Collings – Senior Resource Ecologist, The Forest Preserves of Cook County
Lorena Lopez – Community Engagement Specialist, The Field Museum
