Intro to Forest Bathing: “Belonging”

June 17, 2021: 8:30 AM10:00 AM

Have you ever tried “forest bathing”? Want to experience nature in a deeper way? Join us for an upcoming forest bathing walk at Beaubien Woods Forest Preserve!

We will be using an audio guide created by the Forest Preserves of Cook County, titled “Belonging.” This is an opportunity to slow down, relax, and enjoy the sensory delights of the natural world that you care for. The walk is informed by the Japanese outdoor wellness practice often called forest therapy or forest bathing, which is a translation of the Japanese phrase “shinrin-yoku.”

The cornerstone of this practice is an easy-paced, sensory-focused walk. “Belonging” was designed by Kimberly Ruffin, a trained nature and forest therapy guide, and is a 30-minute sample of the practice. We’re planning to walk for an hour, with a few opportunities to pause the recording and enjoy moments in nature. Please dress for the weather, including some time spent standing still. You can’t bring too many layers!

Space is limited, so you MUST RSVP ahead of time. You will need to be able to access the online guide and bring headphones to listen on your own. We will provide additional details about the audio component once you have signed up.

Please email Gloria Orozco, Calumet Field Organizer, at gloria@fotfp.org with any questions.
