Blue Star Woods Volunteer Workday

September 5, 2021: 9:00 AM12:00 PM

Help restore habitat for plants and wildlife at this historic forest preserve. Blue Star Woods was once the site of a Civilian Conservation Corps Camp and a WWII Prisoner of War Camp. During that period, most of the site was converted to barracks and buildings. Since then, the camp has been demolished and nature has reclaimed the land, but unfortunately so have invasive species. Thanks to the hard work of volunteers, native species are beginning to once again outnumber the invasive ones and the diverse wildlife that once lived here are returning! Our goal is to grow a community of people who will become caretakers and stewards for Blue Star Woods so that this amazing progress continues.

Please wear closed toe shoes and pants that cover your ankles. Masks are not required for people who are fully vaccinated.

Meeting Location: Meet at the north end of the parking lot at Blue Star Memorial Woods, look for yellow “volunteer” signs.

Contact Derek Ziomber, North Branch Field Organizer, at derek@fotfp.org with questions.
