Beaubien Woods Volunteer Workday

September 23, 2021: 10:00 AM1:00 PM

Seed collection is a vital part of ecological restoration, bringing health and resilience to the landscapes. In addition, many studies show that spending time in nature reduces stress levels and has long-lasting health benefits. During the global pandemic, getting outside has become more important than ever. By collecting seeds, you can take care of yourself and the natural areas around you. It’s win-win!

Seed collection entails identifying native plants and collecting some of its seed to bring to nearby areas. Those areas might need the seed after invasive plants are removed to increase biodiversity and create more and improved habitat for creatures who live there.

No previous experience is necessary. Each volunteer seed collecting event  will have a knowledgeable leader who will explain the steps and provide sanitized tools. Masks are not required at Forest Preserve events for people fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Unvaccinated volunteers must wear a mask outdoors when physical distancing is not possible

Meeting location: We will meet in the northern end, across from Carver Military Academy Track and Field area and might drive to the southern end by the highway.
