Trailblazers Walk: Camp Pine Woods
History of the WW2 POW Camps
Learn about the housing of German Prisoners of War and other interesting facts surrounding the three forest preserves within Cook County. Vintage aerial maps and photos of the camps and preserves will help you visualize what these areas were like during that time. Afterward, we will take a walk through the preserve’s unpaved trails.
Difficulty: Relaxed, easy pace walk 1.25 miles.
What to bring: Water, sunscreen, bug spray, and comfortable clothing.
Meet-up location: Camp Pine Forest Preserve, Des Plaines. Drive down to the end and park. We will meet by the picnic tables.
Meet your volunteer guide: Mary Anne has been volunteering in the forest preserves for many years and has completed several training courses including Trail Watch. She loves the outdoors and is excited to explore and guide the group.
