Trailblazers Walk: Potawatomi Woods
Autumn brings a new type of calm, peace, and spirituality. We will use a combination of nature meditations, silence, and observation to enhance our senses to find hope within changing seasons.
During this walk, we will:
- Find calm in the autumn multi-colors and mirror-like lake reflections of this beautiful preserve.
- Stop for observations and silent moments.
- Enjoy sensory awareness.
- Discuss history and natural science.
Difficulty: The duration of the hike is 1.5 hours. Most of the walk is around a lake and through ancient woodlands. This will be a relaxed walking pace on level terrain with grass, earthen, and gravel trails.
What to bring: Water, sunscreen, comfortable clothing, closed-toe shoes, mosquito/tick repellent, and a rain poncho, if needed. Optional: A phone app such as plant identifier, LeafSnap, or iNaturalist.
Meet-up location: We will meet in the parking lot right in front of Lake Potawatomi.
Meet your volunteer guide: Mary Anne has been volunteering in the forest preserves for many years and has completed several training courses including Trail Watch. She loves the outdoors and is excited to explore and guide the group.
This event is free, but please register to secure your spot. If you have any questions about this walk or the Trailblazers Walking Series, contact Sydney Armstead, Engagement Program Manager, at sydney@fotfp.org.
