Trailblazers Walk: Forest Glen
Come visit the newest site added to the North Branch Restoration Project. The hike will go along the river and then go back up to the bike path. The walk will include views from the elevated bridge that spans over railroad tracks to see the woods at the tree top level.
During the walk we’ll cover the following topics, among others:
- A grand example of our official state tree
- What type of plants grow in the flood plain of the Chicago River
Difficulty level: Intermediate due to changes in the grade of the unpaved paths and the ability to step over and around obstacles in the path. The ability to navigate steep inclines will be necessary. Awareness of bike riders is needed as well.
Parking/Meeting location: The group will meet near the map/information sign located just inside the parking lot entrance and near the brick building for the restrooms.
Meet your volunteer guide: Diane has a lifelong interest in nature. As a Cook County Forest Preserve volunteer since 2019 and an avid hiker, she has formed and led fitness hiking groups for over 10 years.
What to bring/wear: Water, sunscreen, comfortable clothing/shoe, mosquito/tick repellent, and rain poncho if needed.
This event is free, but please register to secure your spot. If you have any questions about this walk or the Trailblazers Walking Series, contact Sydney Armstead, Engagement Program Manager, at sydney@fotfp.org.
