SUMMARY:St. Paul Woods Volunteer Workday
DESCRIPTION:St. Paul Woods is an inviting oak-hickory woodland situated east of the North Branch of the Chicago River. Like many of our native woodlands\, it needs management to clear invasive brush and trees to restore the original structure. With increased sunlight\, the wildflowers and grasses will once again add to the beauty of the woods. Join North Branch Restoration Project volunteers as we remove buckthorn and other weedy species\, protecting our native ecosystems. \n\n\n\nVisit The North Branch Restoration Project on Facebook! \n\n\n\nYouth under age 18 must be accompanied by a legal parent/guardian or attend with a chaperoned organized youth group (school\, scouts\, church). \n\n\n\nDirections: Enter the driveway north off 6500 Oakton Ave\, across from Natchez Ave in Morton Grove. SUMMARY:Trailblazers- Trailside Museum and Thatcher Woods Sensory Walk
DESCRIPTION:We will start by exploring the plants and animals outside of the Thatcher Woods Trailside Museum. Then we’ll depart from the museum on a southbound path. On this walk\, we will enjoy the beauty and tranquility of nature and stop for sensory breaks to note what we can see\, hear\, and smell in the forest near the Des Plaines River. \n\n\n\nDifficulty level: Moderate pace. 1-2 miles out and back from the Trailside Museum. Partial paved and partial dirt path. There is a portion of the walk that requires up and down on stairs. \n\n\n\nParking/Meeting Location: Thatcher Woods Trailside Museum parking lot\, South of Chicago Ave. Meet outside the main entrance of the Trailside Museum\, on the South side of the building. \n\n\n\nMeet Your Guide: Leif is a teacher’s assistant from Oak Park. He loves playing soccer and drawing and would love to hike with you whether you are an encyclopedia of nature knowledge or someone just wanting to spend some time outdoors. \n\n\n\nWhat to Bring/Wear: Water\, shoes for hiking/walking\, and weather-appropriate clothing. \n\n\n\nThis event is free\, but please register to secure your spot.
