Affiliate organizations demonstrate thier support for Friends and its mission by giving an annual contribution. Affiliates receive a direct connection to the only group soley focused on the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, FPDCC meeting reports, Friends newsletters, access to the fpfriends listserv, Action Alerts and invitations to Friends events.

Volunteer Restoration Groups:

Volunteer stewards protect the environment by restoring natural savannas, woodlands, forests and prairies in Cook County . They remove invasive aliens--non-native plants like buckthorn and garlic mustard--to make room for native plants, including threatened and endangered species. Learn more each group and come out to a workday in your area.

Cook County Forest Preserve Volunteer Website
This website was created by the Forest Preserve District of Cook County and the Friends of the Forest Preserves to connect the public with volunteer restoration opportunities occurring in the 68,000 acres of forest preserves in Cook County.

Chicago Wilderness, A Regional Nature Reserve
An unprecedented alliance of 182 public and private organizations working together to study and restore, protect and manage the precious natural resources of the Chicago region for the benefit of the public, of which the Forest Preserve District of Cook County and the Friends of the Forest Preserves are members.

Chicago Wilderness Habitat Project
Recruits and teaches people how to monitor birds, frogs, butterflies, dragonflies, and plants. A project of Chicago Wilderness and housed with Audubon – Chicago Region.

Audubon Chicago Region
Audubon saves wildlife and habitat, using volunteer conservation efforts to keep natural areas permanently safe.

Southeast Environmental Task Force
A not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving the Southeast Side and south suburbs of Chicago by promoting environmental education, pollution prevention, and sustainable development.

 

Calumet Stewardship Initiative
Engages residents and member organizations in partnerships that advance nature education, environmental stewardship, scientific discovery, cultural understanding and economic growth.

Friends of the Parks
Friends of the Parks works to protect, preserve and improve Chicago's parks for all of its citizens.

Lake Forest Open Lands Association
A not-for-profit land conservation trust in northeastern Illinois that owns or manages over 700 acres of savanna, woodland and prairie within the city of Lake Forest.

Openlands Project
Openlands has taken leadership roles in securing more than 45,000 acres of land in the Chicago area for public parks, forest preserves, land and water greenway corridors, and urban gardens.

Sierra Club, Illinois Chapter
The club sponsors many Forest Preserve District activities. It also compares and endorses candidates for the FPD Board.

The Illinois Steward Magazine
An award-winning nature magazine that is grounded in the "land ethic" of Aldo Leopold. The Illinois Steward features articles about stewardship, conservation, preservation, and restoration of natural areas in Illinois. Article topics include native plants, wildlife, natural areas in Illinois, nature photography, and Illinois' historical past.
